Plastic Surgery & Cosmetic Enhancement Trends 2020

Although coronavirus has forced us to stay indoors worldwide, avoiding public gatherings, cosmetic enhancements are regaining popularity.

Cosmetic aesthetic seekers are now taking advantage of the stay at home mandate by getting a procedure done and recovering in the comfort of their own homes.

With an increase in safety protocols, it's safer than ever to go to the clinic. Plastic surgeons and aesthetic professionals have gone to great lengths to abide by CDC guidelines.

Top Procedures People Are Getting

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) predicted the 2020 top 5 plastic surgery trends from a telemedicine survey of 350 patients.

Coming in 1st place was Botox (Botulinum Toxin Type A), and fillers in 3rd place, followed by more invasive procedures.

Breast Augmentation - 44%
Soft Tissue Fillers - 37%
Liposuction - 30%
Abdominoplasty - 24%

We spoke to Oxygenetix national sales experts to learn first hand about cosmetic trends they have noticed this year, which echos ASPS predictions.

Non-invasive Treatments

Oxygenetix sales executive, Laura Hunnewell, from Chicago informed us that, "Botox is still really popular and injectors are busy playing catch up from being closed down. Any type of facial treatment that gets the client in and out in 30 minutes is ideal."

Laura continues saying that nurse injectors are really busy injecting tear troughs with filler, "as there is more focus on the eyes, being masked and all."

Orange County territory expert, Ashton Leavitte, shares with us seeing mostly non-invasive procedures such as injectables, laser, and micro-needling. This seems to be because, "the focus has transitioned into more maintenance and preventative treatments rather than repair."

Florida Oxygenetix account executive, Toney Howard, has noticed similar trends in minimally invasive procedures and a reduction in patient demand.

All the while other parts of the country are seeing an increase in invasive procedures.

Plastic Surgeries

Oxygenetix account executive, Diana Jarvis, from Texas has noticed that plastic surgery is staying busy even in aesthetic slow months this year. She reports that liposuction procedures are up and, "patients are taking advantage of having procedures that they normally would need time off to recover."

Diana predicts that since a majority of people are still working from home, they don't have to worry about how long they will be in recovery. Masks have become a popular way to hide procedures as well.

Jill Haynes, Oxygenetix sales expert in San Francisco reports many aesthetic offices being closed for a long time and people seem to be seeing the nurses and doctors, but not aestheticians as much.

What the Future Looks Like

It seems the world of plastic surgery and non-invasive procedures isn't going anywhere, but trends will continue to shift as new technology peaks and the economy changes.

Ashton Leavitte (CA) predicts a drop in invasive procedures with the focus moving to preventative treatments. Diana Jarvis (TX) thinks the same as new advances in aesthetics medicine are enabling patients to eliminate downtime.

The future of plastic surgery, "really depends on the extent of this virus and economic recovery," according to Paula Lillie (NY).

Laura Hunnewell (Chicago) believes it depends on the circumstance. "With the testing for COVID being required pre-surgery, there may be a level of comfort in going in for the procedure. Some are hurting financially while others are making more money than before. For those working from home, recovery time is more relaxed knowing they don't have to get up and get dressed to head into the office."

Toney (FL) is hopeful and thinks things may go "back to normal after a vaccine is available."
