The Spookiest Cosmetic Treatments We've Ever Heard Of

Beauty fanatics have been pushing the boundaries for years, trying to find the next best fountain of youth.

There are some scary sounding cosmetic treatments out there today. We have put together a list of the spookiest cosmetic treatments from around the world. Some of these procedures just sound frightening, while others will make your jaw drop in disgust. . . or terror!

VAMPIRE FACIAL

In 2013 after Kim Kardashian posted a spooky-cool selfie of herself on Instagram having a 'Vampire Facial', this bloody good cosmetic treatment has gained some major popularity.

The medical term for a 'Blood' or 'Vampire Facial' is a platelet-rich plasma or PRP facial. The procedure involves injecting platelets from your own blood back into your skin for rejuvenation.

According to Oxygenetix Advisory Board Member Dr Ava Shamban, this treatment "can help to correct skin concerns, such as age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and more. In addition, it is a great way to brighten the overall complexion while evening skin tone and texture."

The PRP facial is a 3 step, relatively painless, and quick procedure.

First your doctor will draw a small amount of blood.

Second, your blood is spun in a machine called a centrifuge to separate the protein-rich platelets. These platelets contain growth factors that are known to help heal injury.

Lastly, the platelets are re-injected into your skin, most of the time through micro needling. Dr. Ava explains micro needling, "tiny needles are used to create microscopic channels in the skin, allowing topical solutions, such as biological growth factors, to penetrate deeper into the skin and work more effectively." Micro needling also helps encourage collagen production for a more youthful appearance.

The American Academy of Dermatology informs us, "Researchers have found that most patients who get results have 3 or more treatments."

To conceal the redness and help soothe post-procedure skin use Oxygenetix Hydro-Matrix and Oxygenating Foundation. They both contain aloe vera and patented Ceravitae® to promote skin renewal for younger looking skin. With these products by your side, you can conceal signs of cosmetic procedures, no matter how scary they may look.

If the sight of blood makes you queasy, the Vampire Facial may not be the treatment for you. But if you can stomach the gory sight, it may be a procedure worth trying

SNAKE VENOM GLASS LIFT

Another treatment that sounds scarier than it actually is, is the Snake Venom Glass Lift. (Don't worry PETA, there's no actual snakes involved.)

During the Snake Venom Glass Lift, an enzyme solution is applied all over the face and neck. Over a period of 30 to 40 minutes, this solution solidifies and tightens, which is most likely why it warrants the name Snake Venom.

You won't be able to make expressions or speak until the solution is taken off.

This treatment is said to lift and firm the skin by strengthening muscles of your face and neck. The enzymes are naturally occurring substances in the body that help fight free radicals and promote optimal skin functioning.

According to Chebo Clinic in Australia who offers this 60 minute facial, "this treatment is a spectacular freshen up before events whereby no downtime is required and you glow immediately after the procedure."

BIRD POOP FACIALS

You may not be able to fathom the thought of slathering bird feces on your face in the name of youth, but the Bird Poop Facial has somehow stood the test of time.

With over 400 years of history in Japan, the Japanese Nightingale Droppings Facial is known for promoting flawlessly smooth, bright skin. Also called Uguisu No Fun, Geisha Facial or Bird Poop Facial, women who used Nightingale Droppings in ancient times were often called "Porcelain Ladies".

After harvesting Nightingale droppings, they are traditionally laid out to dry in the sun for at least 2 weeks. After being sanitized the droppings are milled into fine powder. When mixed with water, it becomes a paste that can be applied to the skin as a face mask.

Surprisingly, the facial doesn't smell like feces at all as Katelyn McClintok from Byrdie reports after having tried it herself, "If I didn't know otherwise, I would have never guessed I was staring at bird poop." She goes on to say, "The process was quick and easy, and my skin looked incredibly glowy."

You no longer have to travel to Japan to experience the Bird Poop facial for yourself, in fact you can now order Nightingale Droppings right to your doorstep through Amazon.com.

FIRE THERAPY

One of the most bizarre trends on the list, and definitely the hottest, 'Fire Therapy' has gained popularity in recent years. People are literally setting their faces on fire for "glowing" skin in Vietnam.

More commonly known is Chinese Fire Therapy, which is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to stimulate acupressure points. Alcohol is poured over a wet towel on the skin, then set on fire to stimulate the body's Yin and Yang.

Now it has moved on to setting faces on fire through 'Fire Therapy'. The same principles apply, a wet towel soaked in alcohol is placed on the face, which is then lit on fire for about 30 seconds to a minute.

This fire facial supposedly also helps with sleep problems, digestion, headaches, and muscle pains.

*Disclaimer: If you're tempted to try any of these spooky treatments for yourself, do your research and make sure it is with a licensed professional.
