Must-Know Tips for Oily Skin

Must-Know Tips for Oily Skin

Our bodies produce an oil called 'sebum' which protects our skin against friction and keeps it moisturized. Sebum does great things for our skin. . . until we produce too much of it.

Overproduction of oil will clog your pores which leads to acne, large pores, and thick skin.

Whether you have oily skin occasionally or deal with it every day, a consistent skincare routine and the right products can help alleviate some of the symptoms.

What Increases Sebum Production?

You may just be genetically predisposed to having oily skin. If this is the case, there isn't much you can do other than keeping your skin cleansed and avoiding comedogenic skincare and makeup products.

When we are overwhelmed, our bodies release cortisol, the stress hormone. Cortisol increases sebum production in the body and is the culprit of those pesky stress pimples. Maintaining a stress free life may not be achievable, but by practicing relaxation techniques you can lower the cortisol levels in your body and create healthy thinking patterns to minimize acne prone conditions.

Hormones can also increase sebum production, which is why some women experience acne breakouts around the time of their menstrual cycle or the beginning of pregnancy.

Using products that clog your pores will encourage your skin to produce more oil in order to flush out the bacteria and debris particulates.

TIP 1 | Don't Clog Your Pores

Avoid ingredients that clog your pores. Sebum is a thick, waxy substance that already has the potential to clog pores and cause acne, so adding more comedogenic ingredients to the mix is a recipe for disaster. Avoid products with oils and moisturizers that are thick and greasy.

Look for products that are noncomedogenic, made without added oils, and contain skin loving ingredients like Oxygenetix breathable topicals. Check out Oxygenetix Acne Control formulas today and be on your way to better skin.

TIP 2 | Don't Dry Out Your Skin

Avoid products containing alcohol such as toners and acne products that dry out your skin. When your skin is dry, your body will compensate by producing even more sebum and a vicious cycle ensues.

It has been noted by skincare professionals that using gentle exfoliants containing Salicylic Acid is best for preventing acne. Oxygenetix Acne Control products contain 2% Salicylic Acid, which goes deep into the pores to dissolve debris, bacteria, and oils. Oxygenetix is comprised of an aloe vera base which allows the skin to breathe as a cleaner alternative to water or oils.

TIP 3 | Moisturize Daily

Contrary to popular belief, the right moisturizer will help balance and neutralize the skin's moisture levels without increasing oil production. Although it may seem counterintuitive, adding the right kind of moisture to the skin can actually slow down the body's over production of oil.

Use products like Oxygenetix Acne Control Hydro-Matrix which combines the powerful humectants hyaluronic acid and sodium pca with aloe vera to hydrate and enhance the skin's barrier. While providing the skin with the moisture it so desperately needs, Hydro-Matrix also helps skin renewal due to Oxygenetix patented ingredient Ceravitae®. This helps maintain clear skin and contribute to a more youthful appearance.

TIP 4 | Adopt a Consistent Skincare Routine

Oily skin is prone to blackheads, pimples, and clogged pores. Maintaining a consistent skincare routine that, at the very least includes cleansing and moisturizing, will greatly reduce the symptoms of producing too much oil.

Like most things in life, consistency is key. The small acts you perform daily for your skin will compound over time to getting the skin you want!

TIP 5 | Wear Oxygenetix Foundation Only

Most foundations and base makeups contain occlusive oils and preservatives that clog pores and make your skin more oily. It may be tempting to lay on thick makeup to cover-up pimples and shiny skin, but this only makes the problem worse in the long run.

Oxygenetix Foundation is the only breathable camouflage makeup dermatologists and plastic surgeons recommended post-procedure and for extremely sensitive skin. Oxygenetix patented breathable technology allows the skin to perform optimally, while the nourishing formulation encourages cell growth and enhances the radiance of your skin.

Dr Terry Long, a Cosmetic Doctor and member of the Oxygenetix Advisory Board tells us, "This is the best foundation I have ever used! - This is often what my clients tell me when they use Oxygenetix. I use Oxygenetix after treatments. I recommend them to acne sufferers and patients who want a foundation that is actually good for the skin for long-term prevention. I love Oxygenetix for its coverage, lightness and mattifying effect. I highly recommend Oxygenetix for anyone looking for a very good foundation.”
